Composer and sound designer Deri Roberts studied music at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama receiving a Degree in music specialising in Music Technology, and gaining a Masters in Composition. While at the Welsh College he received the HTV study award, Principles award for composition and the David Harris memorial award for his string quartet ‘Tair Gan o Cymru’.
He began his career working on many high-profile television projects as a sound designer and composer with Brollyman Productions (view past projects for full details). Working on such a wide variety of programmes Deri has shown his versatility in tackling a wide range of musical styles.
Deri's work ranges from small-scale ensemble, acousmatic, electroacoustic, and sample based studio work produced in his home studio facilities. His music is currently being heard around the world on numerous stations and being performed by ensembles/soloists including the CNMC (Cardiff New Music Collective), a dynamic group of composers and performers who work together to produce ground-breaking contemporary music, and world-renowned euphoniumist David Childs.

As a multi instrumentalist Deri performs in many ensembles such as Full Circle, The Conway Suite and appears as a session musician on numerous albums, for full listings see Part Projects. Touring and performances have enabled Deri to travel and perform his and others music around the world and in some great venues, from Brazil, Switzerland, Glastonbury festival to many London clubs and the Bristol Venn festival and Brecon Jazz.
Deri is also a part time lecturer in Music Technology and Composition at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and BTEC Music and Music Technology at Bridgend College. He is heavily involved with running music workshops for pupils of all ages working with both the Guildhall School of Music in London as a workshop leader for the national Note 4 Note school workshop project, and as part of the outreach team from RWCMD who run regular music workshops in local South Wales Schools.
